BAKER CITY – (Press Release from the Baker City Police Department)
On or about January 8, 2025, two male juveniles broke into Gas N Snack fueling station located at 2212 10th Street, Baker City, Oregon. An undisclosed amount of merchandise was taken and damages to the building exceeded $1,000.00.
On [January] 21, 2025, the Baker City Police Department began receiving complaints of multiple businesses in the City being broken into. Between January 20, 2025, and January 22, 2025, suspects broke out a store front window at the Baker City Vape Shop located at 1820 1st Street, causing over $1,000.00 in damage. Suspects also broke into the High Mountain Smoke Shop located at 2658 10th Street and took over $1,000.00 in merchandise as well as caused well over $1,000.00 in damage to the property. Lastly, suspects broke into the Straight Edge Tony’s Barber Shop at 2000 Broadway Avenue and took an undisclosed amount of property valued at $240.00. This burglary resulted in damage to the property as well.
As these reports began flooding in on the morning of January 22, 2025, patrol officers worked with our detective to quickly find patterns among the burglaries. They were able to develop three suspects based on evidence they obtained from multiple scenes. During this time, the Baker City Police Department also took a report of a stolen firearm taken from a vehicle in the 2500 block of 4th Street.
On January 23, 2025, patrol officers and detectives arrested three male juveniles in connection with these burglaries and thefts. Because the suspects are juveniles, we will not be releasing their names to the public at this time. The three juveniles were transported to NORCOR, the juvenile detention facility in The Dalles, Oregon, by our Baker County Juvenile Department.
The juveniles were lodged in NORCOR on the following charges:
Burglary in the Second Degree
Conspiracy to Commit Burglary in the Second Degree
Criminal Mischief in the First Degree
Theft in the First Degree
Theft in the Second Degree
Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle
Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
During the investigation, officers were able to recover some property and the firearm that was taken in these cases.
Due to the diligent, collaborative effort of our patrol and detective staff, these cases were quickly solved and the suspects arrested for their crimes. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
