Three Eastern Oregon art Organizations receive $10,000 art education grants

EASTERN OREGON – The Oregon Arts Commission recently announced $280,000 in statewide Arts Learning Program funding to be distributed to 28 art organizations across the state via $10,000 grants. The funds will be used to support art education projects in communities and K-12 schools across Oregon. Of the 28 recipients, three Eastern Oregon art organizations made the cut; Fishtrap, based in Enterprise, Josephy Center for Arts and Culture, based in Joseph, and the Oregon East Symphony, based in Pendleton. Descriptions of what the funds will be used for by each group are as follows:

Fishtrap Inc

To support arts learning opportunities for youth across eastern Oregon. In 2023-24, Fishtrap hopes to reach 500 young rural writers, ages 7-18, through its youth writing programs.

Josephy Center for Arts and Culture

To support youth art programs in Wallowa County including fall art classes, an after-school program, scholarships, classes for at-risk teens, classes in satellite locations and a creature creation/haunted house workshop for teens to teach them industry skills for careers in the entertainment industry.

Oregon East Symphony, Pendleton

To support 29 hours of beginner-level instruction on violin, viola and cello for fourth and fifth grade students from Pendleton’s elementary schools and to provide 29 hours of music instruction for students from Pendleton High School.
