Three crashes on SR-12 result in injuries

PASCO – Washington State Patrol reports three crashes on State Route 12 Sunday afternoon, all with injuries. Two of the crashes occurred near Pasco, while the third was in Yakima County.

Raul Mendoza, 47, of Pasco was cited for improper lane travel in the first crash. WSP reports his vehicle moved into the outside lane traveling westbound near milepost 294, striking a sedan driven by Sharon K. Beckley, 80, of Moses Lake. Beckley was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, while Mendoza was not injured. The crash occurred around noon.

Courtney Lawless, 28, of Seattle has been cited for second-degree negligent driving in a crash at 5 p.m. on State Route 12 approaching the Pasco city limits. She was traveling eastbound, struck a yield sign, passed through the median and hit a westbound vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle, Richard Forney, 18, of Richland; and his 16-year-old passenger were both injured. Forney was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center and the 16-year-old girl was transported to Lourdes Medical Center.

A 3-year-old girl from Toppenish was injured when the car in which she was a passenger crashed into a vehicle that was stopped at a red light about a mile west of Yakima on State Route 12 at milepost 198 at about 7 p.m. The driver of that Chevy Sonic is Marissa Suarez, 18, of Toppenish. She has been charged with second-degree negligent driving. She and the driver and passenger in the stopped vehicle were not injured.
