UMATILLA INDIAN RESERVATION – The Thornhollow Bridge opened for traffic earlier this week. The bridge over the Umatilla River collapsed during flooding in 2020 and was removed by Umatilla County in 2022.
The bridge is about 13 miles east of Mission along Thornhollow Road. It left residents in that area without their closest route from the north side of the river and in the Thornhollow area with only one way in or out.
The asphalt for the new bridge was laid earlier this month.
The project was budgeted at $5.3 million. Umatilla County, which maintains the road, provided a 10.27 percent match.
