The Steens Mountain Loop Road is entirely open

HARNEY COUNTY (Released by BLM Oregon & Washington)-The Steens Mountain Loop Road is FINALLY entirely open!

After a long wait and many out-and-back trips to see the sites on Steens Mountain, the Loop Road is safe and open once again for continuous travel.

After a small rockfall in 2023 near Big Indian Gorge, a 1-mile section of the road was close due to instability of the stone face. The area was recently geotechnically repaired and the scaled material was used to widen nearby pullouts.
