LA GRANDE – National Drug Take Back Day has been announced by the La Grande Police Department. April 30th has been scheduled to rid unwanted or expired prescription drugs. This will take place at the Safeway parking lot in La Grande. Also, several new kiosks in Union County have been added. Not only the La Grande Police Department and Grande Ronde Hospital has drop off locations, but Wal-Mart has joined in, keeping citizens safe from unwanted prescription drugs. Also, Red Cross Drug in La Grande and Rite Aid has made it convenient for disposal.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
