WALLA WALLA – The Marcus Whitman Hotel and Conference Center has been sold to an investment group, Marcus Whitman Holdings, LLC. The agreement, which closed on Friday, allows former owner Kyle Mussman to stay involved as an investor and the property will be managed by Columbia Hospitality, a Seattle-based national management and consulting company.
“I am excited to be working with the team at Columbia to expand on my original vision and ensure continued growth for decades to come,” Mussman said. “This is truly an exciting next chapter for the Grande Dame of Walla Walla and comes as the hotel celebrates 95 years in operation.”
The Marcus Whitman opened in 1928 and was hosted presidents and celebrities. In 1999, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has since won awards for the preservation and restoration work done through the early 2000s.
Columbia Hospitality is no stranger to Walla Walla as the company serves as the operators of The Finch and The Inn at Abeja.
“We have always admired the reputation and history of The Marcus Whitman,” Columbia Hospitality founder and CEO John Oppenheimer said. “The property is a landmark in the community and is popular for weddings, meetings and events of all kinds. Our extensive experience managing and operating properties with similar offerings makes this a natural fit – we are excited to grow together.”
