HARNEY COUNTY-The lower portion of the north Steens Mountain Loop Road, from Page Springs to Fish Lake Campground, is now open for summer adventures!

Our crews have cleared snow drifts and graded the road, but please be cautious: some wet and muddy spots remain, especially on side roads and at Fish Lake Campground.

Why visit Fish Lake? Set at 7,400 feet, this peaceful spot offers lakeside camping, vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, fishing, hiking, and wildlife watching. It’s perfect for a high-desert escape.

The lower section of the south Steens Mountain Loop Road opened mid-may, and the final stretch between Fish Lake and Big Indian Gorge should open soon. Check current road status at TripCheck.org.
