JOHN DAY – Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Thursday and reflected on the weather event that prompted the closure of Grant County Road 18. The Sheriff said trucks that have been re-routed due to I-84 closures will unknowingly take that road, expecting to pop out on Highway 395 with no trouble:

“They’ll get in there part-way, and then all of a sudden the snow is instantly pretty deep, and they can’t turn around. They’re committed, so they blindly just go forward until they just can’t go anymore.

Our crews were busy there on Friday, dealing with slide offs, stuck motorists. It was an all-hands bit there for a while.”
