The Eagle Cap Extreme Sled dog race begins this week
JOSEPH, OR – The annual Eagle Cap Extreme sled dog race is beginning today (Wednesday), starting with Vet checks in Enterprise at 9 am and in Joseph at 1 pm. The race starts Thursday at noon at the Ferguson Ridge Ski Area, approximately 9-miles southeast of Joseph, with the 200 mile Iditarod the Yukon Quest qualifying race, 100 mile eight dog race, and the 31 mile six dog mid-distance two day race, followed by the 22 mile 2-day race junior category for 14 to 17 year-old mushers.
The Eagle Cap Extreme runs through the rugged Wallowa Mountains in Northeastern Oregon. It has been described as challenging, fun and drop-dead beautiful by participants and fans alike. This all-volunteer race receives high marks for professionalism and for being very well run. We focus on making the mushers experience as safe, comfortable and fun as possible. The mushers and their dogs really love their fans, especially all the school kids that make a special field trip to see the event.
