The City of Burns, Hines and Harney County enact burn ban

CITY OF BURNS, HINES AND HARNEY COUNTY-The City of Burns, Hines and Harney County will enact a burn ban beginning July 8, 2024, in response to high-fire danger and a recommendation by the Harney County Fire Defense Board.

With high temperature in the forecast, all fire agencies want to keep local communities safe from fire risk by reducing the number of human-caused wildfire.

“The hot-dry condition and the absence of substantial rainfall have produced an increased fire risk. To help protect our community from the risk of human-caused wildfire the fire defense board is enacting Countywide Burn Restrictions. Burn Restrictions are common during warm summer months, serving as additional protection from significant wildfire incidents for our home and wildlands.”

Unauthorized open burning and unauthorized recreational fires are restricted until the order is lifted. Under the burn restrictions:

NOT ALLOWED

  • All recreational fires are not allowed. This includes any outdoor fire without a chimney such as a backyard fire pit or campfire using chopped firewood or charcoal.
  • all open burning is not allowed. this includes any open burning of fields and yard waste is prohibited.

ARE ALLOWED

  • Manufactured portable outdoor devices are allowed. This includes fireplaces, chimeneas, barbeques, and patio warmers used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
