PENDLETON – The Pendleton UAS Test Range recently was awarded a $102,000 grant from Business Oregon. The money is to begin the planning to establish an Oregon Center of Innovation Excellence.

“This is a planning grant so that we can build a UAS center of excellence,” Mayor John Turner said. “What it does is it helps new businesses get started.”

The grant is to support the test range as it builds a framework for a center of innovative excellence and how it would function. It will cover the cost of creating a business plan and a networking plan that includes partnerships within the UAS industry and training opportunities with state and local schools.

The Pendleton UAS Test Range is an FAA-certified development and flight test center, one of only three in Oregon.
