Tesla planning EV charging hub at former Rite Aid site in Pendleton

PENDLETON – Electric car manufacturer Tesla plans to install vehicle charging stations in Pendleton after being selected for a federal grant through the Oregon Department of Transportation’s Climate Office.

The funding comes from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, a federal initiative aimed at creating a nationwide network of public fast-charging stations.

Tesla’s plans are for eight charging stations utilizing existing parking spots on the west side of the former Rite-Aid building alongside Southwest 20^th Street. ODOT spokesperson Matt Noble that these plans are part of a preliminary application as Tesla continues to negotiate with the property owner.

The latest round of NEVI grants also includes the installation of a charging hub at the Love’s Travel Stop on Tower Road near Boardman.

ODOT says the next round of grants will work to fill rural gaps in the state including U.S. 95 in Malheur County.
