Teenager tried as adult for Grant County wildlife crime

CANYON CITY – A 17-year-old male has been tried as an adult in Grant County Circuit Court and convicted on a wildlife crime. Public court documents show that Gus Toby McDaniel, 17, pleaded guilty to one count of Taking, Angling, Hunting, or Trapping in Violation of a Wildlife Law or Rule, occurring in September of 2024.

McDaniel will get his hunting license suspended for 36 months. 24th Judicial District staff also informed our newsroom that McDaniel has been ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. The guilty plea was entered on August 19th. The specifics of the crime were not detailed.
