PRAIRIE CITY – UPDATE: (Release from Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley, 3/05/2022)

On March 4th near 4:10 pm the Grant County Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call reporting that a 16-year-old female had been shot in the face at a home at 401 North Washington Street in Prairie City Oregon.
The male 16-year-old juvenile that shot her with a small caliber rifle is in custody. He was charged with Reckless Endangering another Person and Unlawful Use of a Firearm and then transported by the Grant County Juvenile Department to the Juvenile Detention facility in Bend Oregon.
The victim was known to the suspect and was present at the residence with her boyfriend who was not the shooter.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Oregon State Police, and the Blue Mt. Hospital Ambulance.
The victim suffered significant trauma to her head and was flown out of area for further medical attention.

A teenager was accidentally shot in the face on Friday, March 4th, according to reports. Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley issued the following statement on the incident:

“Preliminary investigation into a reported shooting at the 400 block of Washington Street in Prairie City this afternoon indicates that a 16 year old female was reportedly accidentally shot in the face by a 16 year old male. The shooting occurred inside a residence. The injury appears to be non life threatening at this time. Family has been notified.
The Grant County Sheriff Office and Oregon State Police responded. The victim was transported to the Blue Mt. Hospital.”
