Teen suspect opens fire in Ontario park, runs from police but quickly caught

ONTARIO — (Rease by Ontario Police) On April 3, 2024, at approximately 4:39 pm Ontario Police responded to Beck-Kiwanis Park regarding “shots fired.” Officers quickly located and identified two subjects: Demitria Zuniga, age 20, of Nyssa and Jashua Padilla Elizondo, age 18, also of Nyssa, Oregon. 

The investigation revealed J. Elizondo had an FTA Theft warrant out of Malheur County for his arrest. J. Elizondo denied “shooting a gun or having a gun” however, a small bag was recovered with ammunition. During the arrest, J. Elizondo attempted to escape but was quickly taken into custody. J. Elizondo sustained a small bump on the side of his head and a laceration to his hand. Officer Tomas Elizondo sustained a laceration on his elbow. Both were cleared by medical personnel.

J. Elizondo was lodged at Malheur County Jail for unlawful use of a firearm, reckless and endangering, and the FTA Theft warrant.

Ontario Police would like to thank those that heard and reported the incident. Ontario Code of Ordinance 6-1-21 Weapons; Use, Possession, Section D states, “Discharge of Weapons Prohibited; Exception – No person other than an authorized peace officer shall fire or discharge a gun or other weapon which propels a projectile by the use of gunpowder or other explosive or jet or rocket propulsion.”
