FINLEY – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy from Kennewick who was struck by a train Sunday morning in Finley.
Deputies were dispatched at 9:30 a.m. to the area of Piert Road and Riek Road.
Two friends reported the teen’s fishing rod was not working and he began walking around. They said he eventually sat down on the railroad tracks. When the friends heard a train coming, they began to yell at him.
Due to the steep embankment, the friends said they could not reach him in time.
The friends immediately called 911 and authorities said that at this point in the investigation, it appears to be an accident. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
