VALE – A 17-year-old boy killed in a crash in Malheur County has been identified as a student at Vale High School.
School officials say Wyatt Cannon was a junior at the high school. He died Tuesday, April 23 in a crash on Hwy. 20 east of Vale.
According to the Oregon State Police, A Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 22-year-old Hunter Brucker, of Redmond, was traveling east and entered the westbound lane to pass a semi truck.
Wyatt, driving west on Hwy, 20 in driving a Ford Maverick, swerved onto the shoulder to avoid colliding with the Trailblazer. The Trailblazer also swerved into the westbound shoulder and collided with the Maverick.
Cannon was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Cannon’s sister, a 13-year-old student at Vale Middle School, was seriously injured and flown to a hospital in Boise.
Brucker had minor injuries.
Oregon State Police say the crash continues to be investigated.
Vale High School says counselors are on site at the school to provide help for grieving students.
The school says a candlelight vigil will be held for Wyatt on Friday, April 26 at 8:30pm at the football stadium.
