HERMISTON – Joel Francisco Alvarez, 18, of the Hermiston area was arrested early New Year’s morning by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office at 80738 Kik Road. A sheriff’s deputy and a Hermiston police officer were responding to a burglary in progress call when they took Alvarez into custody.

According to the UCSO arrest report, Alvarez was attempting to kick in the front door of the vacant residence when law enforcement arrived. The report states that Alvarez was belligerent and made threats during the arrest. That behavior reportedly continued at the jail, where he would not cooperate with the photographing process for a mug shot.

The jail staff posted a photo of Alvarez taken at another location that they took from social media. A normal mug shot will be placed on the roster once it is taken.

He is charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief, and second degree disorderly conduct. His bail is set at $58,500.
