WALLA WALLA โ€“ A regional swatting hoax briefly disrupted Walla Walla High School, Lincoln High School, and Prospect Point Elementary School Wednesday morning.

The three schools were put under secure building procedures as the Walla Walla Police Department investigated the hoax about a possible threat of violence. WWPD said calls were made to dispatch referencing Wa-Hi and that similar calls were made to schools in Columbia and Whitman counties, as well as Pullman and Clarkston school districts.

The phone calls are being investigated. WWPS Superintendent Wade Smith said situations like this serve as an important reminder that if someone sees something or hears something they should say something to ensure safety for all.

Swatting, perhaps named because of the hoped for response of SWAT teams, are when multiple false reports of violence inundate a school district. It is a national problem with one of the more recent incidents occurring in Hermiston.
