Suspicious fire in Ft. Walla Walla Natural Area prompts investigation

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Fire Department was dispatched at 8:28 p.m. Thursday to Blueberry Trail in the Fort Walla Walla Natural Area, south of Poplar Street and north of Fort Walla Walla Museum, for a natural vegetation fire. Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 also responded as part of a mutual-aid agreement.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to approximately 2.5 acres in size. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident can call the Walla Walla Police Department at 509-527-4434 and speak to a detective.

The Fort Walla Walla Natural Area is currently closed to the public while crews identify and mitigate potentially hazardous trees.
