Suspicious fire damages scrap yard in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Fire Department was dispatched at 5:20 a.m. Saturday to a commercial structure fire in an area near 935 Jefferson Street. The cause of the fire is undetermined, but suspicious in nature.

Officers from the Walla Walla Police Department were the first to arrive on scene and reported a large scrap yard was on fire with multiple explosions. Units from the Walla Walla Fire Department responded along with mutual aid from Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 and the College Place Fire Department.

WWFD arrived on scene and reported a 10,000 square foot scrap yard was fully involved. Crews immediately went to work gaining access and extinguishing the fire. Firefighters had the fire under control at 6:22 a.m.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. Damage is estimated at $100,000.
