Suspicious device forces closure on Highway 730

UMATILLA COUNTY – A Umatilla County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a possible drug activity call at 11 a.m. this morning (Saturday) on Highway 730 near milepost 196. The report was of some containers full of syringes near the pump station.

The deputy discovered what is being described as a “suspicious device” by UCSO. The deputy requested and received help from the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad.

Highway 730 was closed down while the device was investigated and either the device or items contained therein was safely disposed of, according to UCSO Lt. Sterrin Ward.

We are awaiting more details about the device or items involved from Oregon State Police.
