Suspect in Ontario shooting arrested, charged with attempted murder

On January 1st, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Ontario Police with assistance from the Oregon State Police and the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gunner Ray Hernandez, age 18, of Ontario, Oregon. The arrest occurred at 998 Fortner Street in Ontario, and is related to the shooting incident from Friday, December 29, 2023, which left a juvenile male critically injured with a gunshot wound to the head. 

Hernandez was charged with attempted murder, assault in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, criminal mischief in the first degree, unlawful use of a firearm, recklessly endangering another person, and tampering with evidence. Additional charges may follow depending on further investigative developments.

The victim (juvenile) has been upgraded to stable condition.

Both Hernandez and the driver of the white sedan—other involved vehicle on December 29, 2023—were charged with Criminal Mischief 1 to assist victims and the City with restitution.

The driver of the other vehicle, Raul Herrera Ramos Jr., age 28, transient, was charged with Attempting to Elude Police, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver, Criminal Mischief 1, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and had multiple warrants for his arrest.
