WALLA WALLA – A motion made by the Walla Walla County Prosecutor’s Office to amend charges against Troy Mitchell Rathbun, 62, of Prescott was granted Friday in Walla Walla County Superior Court. Rathbun is accused of fatally shooting his neighbor, Ronald D. Evans, 41, of Prescott following a verbal dispute on the 200 block of East Third Street.

Rathbun pleaded not guilty Friday to each of the nine counts filed against him which are first-degree murder (amended from second-degree murder), first-degree assault (a charge that was added) and the remaining seven counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

At the time of his arrest, Rathbun told detectives he had been having issues with Evans for months and that he “lost it” after confronting Evans that same day in which he accused Evans of vandalizing his vehicles numerous times. Rathbun’s trial is set for December 16.
