WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Public Schools Board of Directors has a study session at 5:30 p.m. today (Tuesday). Two of the items on the agenda deal with Superintendent Wade Smith. One is his performance review and the other is an extension of his contract.

Smith’s performance review brought him high marks from Board President Derek Sarley. He received outstanding ratings in the areas of leadership and district culture, communications and community relations, organizational management, instructional leadership, human resources and budget management, values and ethics of leadership, and labor relations. In the areas of policy and government as well as curriculum planning and development his work was judged to be excellent.

“In summary, Dr. Smith has skillfully guided the district through a year like none other in public education,” Sarley wrote. “We are pleased to have Dr. Smith working with us to lead the district through these challenges and look forward to many more years of productive partnership.”

It is recommended that the board renew Smith’s contract through June 30, 2024. He will see pay increases at a rate commensurate with the raises granted other WPPS administrators.

The study session is held via Zoom. The ID is 919 0499 3946.
