PENDLETON – The committee working on forming leagues for the Oregon School Activities Association has tentatively placed Pendleton High School in 4A instead of 5A Pendleton would be in a league with three other teams – La Grande, Baker, and Ontario. Superintendent Chris Fritsch says the move would present challenges but would bring good things as well.
The first thing the change would eliminate are Pendleton’s long road trips to Redmond and Bend for regular league play. However, Fritsch said, travel still could be on the agenda because of the number of out-of-conference games Pendleton would have to set to round out each schedule.
“It will be a challenge, but I think it’s also an opportunity for all of our programs across the board, boys and girls, to be extremely competitive,” Fritsch said.
Pendleton would have the largest student enrollment of the four teams in the conference. If the OSAA finalizes the plan it would go into effect in 2022.
