BAKER CITY – (Release from Baker City Police Department) On September 15, 2021, Baker City Police Department responded to a reported burglary of an unoccupied residence and shed located at 2610 Clark Street, Baker City, Oregon. It was reported that about $10,000.00 worth of miscellaneous tools and copper were stolen from the home and shed. Later that day it was learned that a subject had sold copper that matched the description of the stolen copper to B&K Auto Salvage and Recycling in Baker City.
On the morning hours of September 17, 2021, Baker City Police Department responded to a reported Robbery/Burglary that had just occurred at 1305 7th Street in Baker City. The homeowner had just arrived home from work and discovered a masked individual in his home. The suspect pointed a firearm at the homeowner and told him to back away and then fled the scene. It was later discovered that the firearm the suspect had was taken from the residence.
Baker City Police Detectives who also encompass the Baker County Narcotics Enforcement Team were called out to assist with the robbery investigation. As a result of the information obtained throughout the investigation Detectives and Officers were able to tie the burglary and robbery to one suspect. A search warrant was applied for and granted to search a travel trailer associated with 2260 Wabash Street in South Baker City. Police knew the trailer to be occupied by ALEXANDER GRIFFIN and SAMANTHA STEELE. Detectives and officers executed the search warrant that evening and recovered numerous items that had come from the burglary at 2610 Clark Street as well as the firearm that was stolen from the 1305 7th, street home.
Other suspected stolen items that were not associated with either above case was also located. Police believe some of the items recovered most likely came from storage unit thefts over the course of this last year. Methamphetamine and items indicative of drug trafficking was also located.
At the end of the evening, ALEXANDER GRIFFIN was taken into custody and lodged in the Baker County Jail for a post-prison violation. He had just been recently released from jail after spending three days on a different post-prison violation.
A Baker County Grand Jury on Thursday, September 23rd came back with a true bill on the following charges against Mr. Griffith. The Grand Jury did not look at potential drug trafficking charges. That is a possibility in the future.
