BOARDMAN – Boardman Fire Rescue District (BFRD) responded to a vehicle fire Monday at around 1:05 p.m. on Interstate 84 near Tower Road, which also caused a small fire in the median.

BFRD says a brush unit was assigned to the median grass fire, while a tactical tender and water tender were assigned to the vehicle fire.

The driver stated to BFRD that he had just wired a sub-woofer and that while he was driving the motor “turned-off”, when he pulled into the median smoke was coming from the engine compartment. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and was able to retreat from the vehicle safely and did not suffer any injuries.

The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police also responded.
