Study finds Grant County is a “Child Care Desert”

JOHN DAY – We knew that licensed child care is in high demand, but did you know that Grant County is a “Child Care Desert?” Grant County Child Care Committee Coordinator Kitman Kienzle explains the results of an Oregon Child Care Desert Study from 2020:
“…it listed Grant County as a Childcare Desert for ages 3 to 5, which means that there are more than three children for every available childcare slot. On top of that, it listed us as a Severe Childcare Desert for infants and toddlers—so, ages 0 to 3—which means that there are more than 10 children in the county for the available childcare spots for that age group.”
