Students highlighted and more details from recent school board meeting

BAKER CITY – Baker School District Superintendent Mark Witty sat down with staff at the Elkhorn Media Group recently to discuss the highlights of their most recent board meeting.  Witty said that during last weeks meeting they were able to highlight and recognize a couple of students.  One was Mackenzie Meritt from Baker Virtual Academy.  The other was Kyle Handyside from Eagle Cap Innovative High School.  Both students were recognized as “Promise Students of the Month.”

In other school board busines, Witty says, “the board approved that we move ahead with the Bond Oversight Committee. This is a committee that will be comprised of 11 community members.  The bond oversight committees core purpose will be to carefully monitor the delivery and proposed Bond program to ensure accountability, fiscal transparency and community trust and as the Superintendent, I will be the liaison with this group.

Witty noted that if the bond is successful on May 18th, then they would get that group pulled together and utilize them in the process to provide quality oversight.

We also adopted the district calendar for the school year for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.

In 2021-2022 the school year will start on August 30, 2021 and in the 2022-2023 school year, school will start on August 29, 2022.

In addition, the Budget Committee Calendar was adopted, and first budget meeting will be May 18, 2021.
