Student suspected of making active shooter threat arrested

PROSSER – A 13-year-old student at Housel Middle School in Prosser was arrested Friday for allegedly making calls about an active shooter and bomb threat.

Just after 7 a.m. Friday, the Prosser Police Department and Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an active shooter at Housel Middle School.

When officers arrived at Housel Middle School, they determined there was no active shooter. Deputies joined officers in checking surrounding schools and determined there was no active shooter at those schools.

An investigation began and law enforcement was able to locate the student who allegedly made the phone calls. The student was taken into custody at Housel Middle School without incident.

The Prosser Police Department said this incident also appears to be related to a bomb threat made Thursday at Housel Middle School.

This case remains an active investigation.
