COLLEGE PLACE – A student at College Place High School was arrested Wednesday after it was reported to school administration that the student had been seen in possession of a handgun on campus the day before.
Superintendent Jim Fry said the school made the decision not to lockdown to avoid alerting the student of a possible situation, but instead moved quickly to secure the student’s location with visual contact while awaiting additional police officers to arrive.
The student was taken into custody in the classroom without incident. The student did not have a weapon in possession but admitted to bringing an airsoft gun to school Tuesday.
Fry said the student faces both school discipline and the district will pursue charges with the College Place Police Department.
