How did you get into public health?
I was a nurse in Labor and Delivery, when a friend, Kathleen Quintero, reached out to me to encourage me to join the team at the Health Department. As I learned more about what Public Health does, I became increasingly passionate about addressing health disparities and advocating for policies that promote health and safety. This passion has driven me throughout my time here.
What motivates you in your work?
I am inspired by the people! I love my co-workers, the community members and the people that I have the honor of serving. I grew up in this community and I’ve witnessed firsthand how health education, and disease prevention initiatives can transform our community. Feeling like I play a small part in ensuring our county is healthy and safe brings joy to my heart.
What are you excited to work on as director?
As the PH director, and Registered Nurse, I want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and communities. I am excited about the possibility of making a significant impact on the well-being of our community and to build on the amazing things our program coordinators do, by supporting the overall vision and direction of all of our programs.
Anything else you’d like the Malheur community to know?
As the PH Director, my primary responsibility is to protect and promote the health of our community. I know this responsibility requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach. I cannot do this without working closely with local healthcare providers, community members and community organizations. I want to acknowledge how their valuable contributions positively impact public health initiatives. I am excited to continue to foster these relationships that drive meaningful improvements in public health outcomes for our community.
