PENDLETON – The public can have its say on a move to end the requirement that the city of Pendleton maintain and reinstall street stamps and other historic references after improvement projects. The council will be able to vote on the proposal after the hearing. The meeting is today (Tuesday) at 7 p.m.
The council agenda states the reason for ending the requirement is due to objections to the process since the stamps contain the names of “national and historical figures who are affiliated with racism.”
The city council will elect a new president at the meeting. Council members will also consider authorizing condemnation proceedings if they are required, for the Byers Avenue street improvement project. There are also two ground leases up for approval at the Eastern Oregon Regional Airport.
The meeting is held via Zoom. The meeting identification is 848 8298 2122 and the pass code is 248854.
