State Track and Field Roundup: Weston-McEwen and Imbler take titles as state records fall

EUGENE – Imbler and Weston-McEwen grabbed team titles as several individuals put on standout performances at the Oregon State High School Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Eugene.

Weston-McEwen nipped Enterprise for the 2A Boys title behind a banner day from Wyatt Parsons. Parsons set 2A state records in the 100m and 200m along with being part of the winning 4×100 Relay team.

“I’m usually not the fastest guy out of the blocks, but when I get ahead of them, it’s over,” Parsons told OSAAtoday.

Imbler’s girls are 1A champions over runner-up Joseph, taking the lead after Piper Braseth won the 800m with a 1A state record of 2:21.29. Braseth was also part of Imbler’s title-winning 4×100 Relay team.

Kiara Rios of Adrian was a notable individual performer in Girls 1A with titles in the 100m, 200m, and 400m where she set a state 1A record of 57.07 seconds.

Lindsey Talbot of Harper took Girls Triple Jump, Long Jump, 300m Hurdles, and 100m Hurdles. Other champions for the Hornets include Madoxx Martinez in Boys 400m, Issac Walker in Boys Long and Triple Jumps, and the Boys 4x400m Relay.

Sammy Gressley of Baker was the standout in Girls 4A competition winning the 100m, 200m, 400m, and long jump. Kate Norton was the only other champion on the Baker girls’ squad, winning Shot Put with a throw of 42’7”.

John Thatcher of Pendleton set his personal best winning the Boys 400m.

Brogan Hadgepeth of La Grande won the Boys Discus Throw, while Renee Hutchison took Girls High Jump.

Claire Johnson of Vale won Girls 200m and 100m Hurdles.

2A

Enterprise’s Owyhee Harguess set a state meet record that previously stood for nearly two decades with a time of 56.61 in the 400m Prelims before winning the final, as well as taking titles in 800m and being a part of the 4x100m and 4x400m title-winning teams. Malakai Powers won Boys 400m and Ezra Storlie won Boys 300m Hurdles.

Christopher Humphreys of Heppner won Boys Shot Put with a personal best throw of 48’11”.

1A

Jude Royer of Echo won Girls Discus Throw with a throw of 126 feet, 20 feet longer then the runner-up, she then cemented her status as the top thrower in Girls 1A this year by winning Shot Put.

Ian Garlitz of Cove was tops in Boys 1500m while Gavin Pedro took the title in Boys High Jump.

Sky Nesser of Powder Valley won Girls High Jump.

Lily Weer of Joseph won the Girls 3000m while Annie Rose Miller won Girls Pole Vault.
