EASTERN OREGON — With nearly 200,000 acres engulfed by wildfires across Eastern Oregon, local authorities and agencies are mobilizing to support ranchers who are facing significant losses.
State Senator Lynn Findley (R- District 30), says the impact on ranchers has been severe.
“Entire ranches and grazing patches have been burned, and many cattle may still be unaccounted for,โ said Findley. โWe have reached out to the Office of Emergency Management to provide necessary tools and resources for those affected.”
The Malheur, Harney, and Grant County Fairgrounds are now operating as emergency relief shelters for those in need. In addition to these shelters, ranchers who have lost livestock or grazing land are urged to contact their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices to begin the assistance process.

Senator Findley emphasized the severity of the wildfire season, noting that current conditions are more extreme than in previous years. “The energy release components, which measure available fuel for fires, are at near-record highs. With forecasted lightning and minimal moisture, we need to be extra vigilant.”
He urged the community to prioritize safety and to give firefighters the space they need. “It’s crucial to stay out of the firefighters’ way and let them do their job. Our primary concern is ensuring no lives are lost or injuries sustained.”
