COLLEGE PLACE – The state of the city and roundabouts will be a topic of discussion at tonight’s College Place City Council workshop which begins at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at College Place City Hall.

Mayor Norma Hernandez will deliver her state of the city address in which she’ll take a detailed look at the city’s accomplishments in 2023, then discuss the city’s strategic plan through 2026. She’ll also address some of the major challenges the city faces going forward.

The council will also discuss the proposed hotel/convention center with supporting retail/restaurants on Whitman Drive. City Administrator Mike Rizzitiello said the deal is hinged on getting a roundabout on Whitman Drive. He adds getting a hotel in the city has been a goal in the city’s strategic plan and comprehensive plan. The city will work with Marcus Deleo-Fullard, the property owner, to submit a state grant request to cover some of the costs of building the roundabout.

Also on the agenda, the Washington State Department of Transportation has a long-term plan to convert all intersections along State Route 125 into roundabouts. The city wants to get the public’s input as this is an early level conceptual design. Tonight’s workshop may be viewed on the city’s YouTube channel.
