SALEM – The Oregon Department of Education is sending career and technical education revitalization funds to 74 high schools in the state to aid in career readiness. The total amount of the grants is $7.629 million.
The funding is to be focused on programs that deal with advanced manufacturing, agricultural science, business, computer science, construction, cosmetology, engineering, firefighting, health sciences, hospitality, media, and natural resources. Two high schools in this area will benefit.
There is $128,100 dollars earmarked for the Helix School District Agriculture Facility. The district purchased a building last spring that is to be remodeled into a flexible learning environment to accommodate students’ individual needs in the agriculture program. Superintendent Brad Bixler said that the grant will proceed and more detail about the program will be forthcoming on the hiring of a new agriculture teacher.
Condon High School will receive $65,597 to launch the Building Opportunities for All project. Its goal is to increase community partnerships, broaden the scope of career and technical education class offerings, and work with community colleges for dual credit. CHS has not employed a full time CTE teacher since 2012, and the goal is to create a high-quality CTE program that can impact students for years to come.
