UPDATE: Stabbing victim found deceased at Hells Canyon Overlook has been identified as a Hermiston man

Follow-up to the death on Friday, July 8, 2022

Wallowa County Dispatch received a 911 call requesting medical assistance for a stabbing victim at Hells Canyon Overlook.

The Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded and found Dan Ridling, age 64 of Hermiston, deceased in the parking area at Hells Canyon Overlook with a stab wound to his torso.  According to witnesses, Ridling was in a physical altercation with another male in the parking area.  The other male is cooperating with the investigation.  The investigation is still ongoing.

On Friday, July 8, 2022 at about 11:36am, Wallowa County Dispatch received a 911 call requesting medical assistance for a stabbing victim at Hells Canyon Overlook.

The Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded and found a male subject deceased lying in the parking area of Hells Canyon Overlook.  The Oregon State Police Major Crimes Unit was requested and responded to assist with the investigation.

All partied involved are accounted for at this time, and there is no known threats to the public.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
