WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office reports a man was arrested Saturday night following a stabbing at the Walla Walla County Fairgrounds that left three people injured.
Undersheriff Joe Klundt said deputies, along with law enforcement from partnering agencies, responded at 10:42 p.m. to a quinceanera with 250 to 300 people in attendance when a fight broke out. A quinceanera is a celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday that is common in Mexican and other Latin American cultures.
“Units arrived to multiple fights with non-compliant subjects, and through a tremendous display of agency cooperation and mutual aid were ultimately able to secure and control the scene,” Klundt said.
Gilberto Francisco, 31, was taken into custody and lodged into the Walla Walla County Jail for first-degree assault, felony harassment – threats to kill, and for brandishing a deadly weapon. Additional charges may be filed as reports and witness/victim interviews are more closely examined.
All three of the victims were transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
