SRCI adults in custody complete Music Theory course

ONTARIO — The Oregon Department of Corrections recently announced that seven adults in custody at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario recently completed a 12-week Music Theory class.

The department wrote, โ€œAt Snake River, we believe that music can be a powerful tool for rehabilitation, helping to create a positive and constructive environment within the institution.โ€

The course covered topics like music notation, interval theory, scales, rhythm, chords, harmony, melody, and song structure applied to the guitar.  The department noted the participants also โ€œgained a creative outlet for self-expression, emotional processing, and social connection.โ€
