SRCI adults in custody complete Music Theory course

ONTARIO — The Oregon Department of Corrections recently announced that seven adults in custody at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario recently completed a 12-week Music Theory class.

The department wrote, “At Snake River, we believe that music can be a powerful tool for rehabilitation, helping to create a positive and constructive environment within the institution.”

The course covered topics like music notation, interval theory, scales, rhythm, chords, harmony, melody, and song structure applied to the guitar.  The department noted the participants also “gained a creative outlet for self-expression, emotional processing, and social connection.”
