HERMISTON – Hermiston police officers arrested Clinton Eugene Springer, 41 earlier this week after he allegedly attempted to rob the local Dairy Queen An employee told officers Springer threatened employees saying he had a gun and would kill them if they did not give him the money in the register.
When he was unable to get the money, he fled the restaurant but was located a short distance away and taken into custody, Chief Jason Edmiston said.
“Our officers were able to, with the assistance of others, locate Clinton Springer, a 41-year-old transient who has absolutely plagued this community for the last couple of decades,” he added.
The arrest did not go smoothly. The chief said that the suspect started kicking and injured one of the officers.
Records from Hermiston and nearby communities indicate that over the years Springer has been arrested 32 times charged with 78 criminal acts. In this latest arrest he is charged with second-degree felony robbery of a business, felony assault of a public safety officer, a felony parole violation, menacing, and disorderly conduct.
“This is definitely one of those individuals that we would love to see off of our streets,” Edmiston said.
