On February 3. 2021 at about 2:10 pm Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a sledding accident with CPR in progress. The accident occurred at the Spout Springs Ski Resort located on Highway 204 North West of Elgin Oregon. Elgin medical, La Grande medical, and deputies were dispatched and arrived a short time later. The victim, identified as Rosa Itzel Farias (DOB 12/26/93) of Pasco Washington, was pronounced deceased at the scene. It was determined through Investigation Rosa was sledding on an inflatable sled, down one of the ski slopes of the currently closed Spout Springs Ski Resort. A witness indicated, while sledding Rosa may have reached speeds of 20 miles per hour when her sled came into contact with a light pole, causing life threating injuries to her head and face. Evidence found at the scene confirmed the witness’s statements. Our condolences go out to the family for their loss.
