BAKER COUNTY – Motorists traveling along I-84 between Baker City and Huntington on August 24 may have experienced a minor delay due to a partial lane blockage. Rather than a car wreck or an unfortunate animal in the road, the cause of the blockage was a lost load of onions that had fallen off a truck near Milepost 333 Eastbound, at around 3:41 p.m., just north of Huntington. A full description of the unintentional roadblock, as provided by Oregon State Police, is as follows:
“OSP and ODOT responded to a report of a Commercial Motor Vehicle that lost a load of onions on 1-84 East near mile marker 333. The driver of the CMV stated his load shifted and he lost approximately 300 50lb. bags ofonions. The onions blocked the left-hand lane for over five hours while ODOT and a non-preference tow company worked on removing the onions. Torch Towing responded to clean up the onions and the CMV was able to drive under its own power.”
