Special Ceremony to be Held for Fallen Nyssa Officer

NYSSA — A special ceremony is set to honor fallen Nyssa officer Cpl. Joe Johnson this week.

The Fallen Soldiers Memorial Torch Run is coming to Nyssa on September 10, with a special ceremony dedicated to Johnson and his family. Arriving at 4 p.m., the procession will honor Cpl. Johnson at the Nyssa Police Department, located at 14 S. Third St.

Johnson was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a call this past April. He was 43.

The Fallen Soldiers Memorial Torch Run is a 21-day journey spanning six states honoring a total of 48 fallen heroes.

It’s spearheaded by Tribute to Fallen Soldiers, a Eugene-based motorcycle group that travels around the country to honor our nation’s fallen soldiers and law enforcement officers.

For those wishing to participate, The City of Nyssa suggests parking at the library or Nyssa City Hall as the procession will occupy 3rd Street.

Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Northwest, a group of veterans and Americans, undertakes this annual journey funded solely by donations. For more information, visit  TributetoFallenSoldiers.com.
