John Day, Prairie City and Hines (Released by the U.S. Forest Service)-Effective Monday, October 30, 2023, Emigrant Creek Ranger District will be moving its Fire Danger Rating to Low.

When the fire danger is “low” it means that fuels do not ignite easily from small embers, but a more intense heat source, such as lightning, may start fires in duff or dry rotten wood. Fires in open, dry grasslands may easily burn a few hours after a rain, but most wood fires will spread slowly, creeping or smoldering. Control of fires is generally not an issue.

Please remember to recreate responsibly. Build your campfires fire away from vegetation, keep fires small and never leave them unattended. Drown your fire, stir, and feel to ensure it is cold before you leave.
