PENDLETON – Social media was on fire with complaints regarding Pendleton hotels and motels dramatically jacking up their rates during special events this summer. Travel Pendleton Director Kara Woolsey said that the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce is aware and is working with motel and hotel owners.
“We’re just reined in by the bounds of what we can do with capitalism,” she said.
Woolsey stressed that the practice wasn’t universal.
“We do have hotels in town that are great partners that we do have good communication with ownership,” she said.
Woolsey has been in the job for a month and said she’s probably not the best person to ask what can be done, but she is positive something is being done.
“There are probably others that could speak better to this, but we are aware, we’re doing everything we can and we’re exploring every option available to us,” she said.
