PENDLETON โ€“ In meteorological terms, summer is comprised of the months of June, July, and August. National Weather Service Hydrologist Marilyn Lohmann said that only a few locations set a record as the hottest summer ever. One of those was Hermiston, with an average temperature of 76.9 degrees, breaking the record of 75.4 recorded in 2015.

โ€œPasco, Redmond, The Dalles, and La Grande also had their hottest summers on record,โ€ Lohmann said.

Walla Walla came close. Its second-hottest summer had an average temperature of 76.3 degrees, not quite enough to eclipse the 77.9 record set in 2015.

Pendletonโ€™s average temperature of 74.2 degrees made this its fourth hottest summer. The record was 75.2 degrees in 1967.

โ€œThe cooler temperatures that we saw here at the end of August kept notching us down that record trail just a little bit,โ€ Lohmann said.
