PENDLETON – In meteorological terms, summer is comprised of the months of June, July, and August. National Weather Service Hydrologist Marilyn Lohmann said that only a few locations set a record as the hottest summer ever. One of those was Hermiston, with an average temperature of 76.9 degrees, breaking the record of 75.4 recorded in 2015.
“Pasco, Redmond, The Dalles, and La Grande also had their hottest summers on record,” Lohmann said.
Walla Walla came close. Its second-hottest summer had an average temperature of 76.3 degrees, not quite enough to eclipse the 77.9 record set in 2015.
Pendleton’s average temperature of 74.2 degrees made this its fourth hottest summer. The record was 75.2 degrees in 1967.
“The cooler temperatures that we saw here at the end of August kept notching us down that record trail just a little bit,” Lohmann said.
