SALEM – Residents of Umatilla and Malheur counties are among 22 of Oregon’s 36 counties to see an extension of benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program due to a severe weather event from Nov. 19-20. Those households now have until Dec. 18 to request replacement benefits.

The extension is for those who suffered a loss of benefits due to strong winds and heavy rainfall that caused outages for the more than 25,000 households. Umatilla and Malheur are the only counties listed by the Oregon Department of Human Services. Households living outside of those counties must follow the usual process and request replacement benefits within 10 days of the loss.

Replacement SNAP benefits may be requested by:

Once approved, replacement benefits are added to the household’s existing Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. The maximum replacement amount is the cost of the food lost, not to exceed the household’s normal monthly SNAP benefit.
